postheadericon ex-DNC chairman: We had no message in 2010

Democrats have to do a better job of messaging, former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said Thursday.

In an interview on the Jack Gravely Show, McAuliffe said Democrats need to do a better job on messaging than in the 2010 elections, when Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives.

"We had no message in 2010," McAuliffe said. "We've got to stand up."

McAuliffe added that President Obama's job-creation policies have worked and that Democrats should publicize that more.

"Barack Obama inherited the worst economy and is creating jobs month after month after month, and we should be proud of that," McAuliffe.

McAuliffe's comments come a day after Obama unveiled his plan for reducing the deficit over the next 12 years by cutting $4 trillion, partially by raising taxes on the wealthy. ! McAuliffe praised the plan as "a good start."

"Spending is out of control," McAuliffe said. "[We've] got to live within our means, and our government hasn't been doing that."
