postheadericon Cantor, Reid spar over spending on Twitter

The offices of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Majority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) took their spat over spending to Twitter on Monday.

Reid spokesman Jon Summers retweeted a message from his predecessor, Jim Manley, knocking Cantor's claims that Reid and President Obama have not done enough to come up with their own spending plan:

RT @jamespmanley: latest@cantor press sounds like someone is bitter that they were, once again, left out of the room//Ha! Indeed!!

Manley appeared to be referring to a kerfuffle last week betwe! en Cantor and a reporter over the details of the spending deal.

Cantor's press office quickly shot back:

@jonsummersdc ... maybe it's time you actually start doing something ove [sic] there? #justsayin'

As the war of words continues on Twitter, cable and in the halls of Congress, leaders continue to negotiate a deal behind closed doors.

Obama will hold a meeting with leaders from both parties on Tuesday to help hammer out a deal before Friday to avert a government shutdown.
