postheadericon American ethanol: Lowering gas prices, creating U.S. jobs

The price of gasoline is edging up - again - with ongoing political unrest in the Middle East, and some have speculated about $5 per gallon gasoline this year. In response to rising prices, the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee wisely held a hearing to determine what innovative farming can do to help.

It's wise because farmers are doing a lot and they could be doing a lot more. As CEO of the largest producer of renewable fuel, I was invited to testify about what ethanol is doing to lower gas prices today and what more it can do in the future.

It was just a few years ago that skyrocketing gas prices led to passage of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 with a Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) calling for 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels by 2022.
