postheadericon Triumphant Rahm to visit White House Friday

Chicago mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel will visit the White House Friday morning, according to Emanuel communications director Ben LaBolt.

Spokespersons for Emanuel declined to say what Emanuel and the president would discuss. The visit comes as Emanuel spends two weeks with his family in Washington.

The visit will be the first by Emanuel â€" who served as President Obama's chief of staff â€" since he left the White House to run for mayor of Chicago.

Emanuel left his seat in Congress representing Chicago's north side to serve as Obama's chief of staff in 2009 when Obama took office. He left at the end of 2010 when outgoing Mayor Richard M. Daley announced he would not seek another term in office.

Obama chose Daley's brother, JPMorgan Chase executive Bill Daley, to succeed interim chief of staff Pete Rouse.

Emanuel won the mayoral race and avoided a runoff, winning 55 percent of the vote on Feb 22. He takes office May ! 16.
