The House of Representatives recently passed legislation that severely cuts funding for programs targeted toward low-income Americans and their families. House Republicans declared this a victory for the American people.

I ask Republicans, how could funding cuts for low-income students and their families be “good for our economy and our democracy”? On the contrary, this move is flagrantly regressive in its economic impact and unfair to our neediest citizens.
