The average American adult spends an hour and a half each day driving in their cars. Of that time, thirty-four hours a year are spent in traffic jams contributing to the waste of nearly 2.3 billion gallons of fuel per year from all cars idling in traffic. As the American population continues to grow so do our transportation needs, and our country’s infrastructure is quite simply not keeping up with the demand.

America is losing its global competitiveness for many reasons, not the least of which involves our ability to move freight effectively and efficiently. We have entered a losing cycle of outsourcing all of our goods, our energy, and our food, and spending American dollars investing in the! futures of foreign countries, and not our own. 

The highway bills have been some of the most important pieces of legislation this body has passed. Transportation and infrastructure funding is a true economic stimulator and it needs to be a priority for us.
