New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is being lambasted by some for his comment that "I already know I could win" if he ran for president, as if he had uttered, as did the highly entertaining Charlie Sheen, "I’m tired of pretending like I’m not special. I’m tired of pretending like I’m not bitchin’, a total freakin’ rock star from Mars."

Christie's detractors on this note have it all wrong. At a minimum, those who run for high office already have a fairly healthy ego, and many possess an ego so large as to be unhealthy.
