postheadericon Reid: I'm opposed to more continuing resolutions

The Senate majority leader said he doesn’t want any more short-term continuing resolutions in place of a longer-term federal spending bill.

"I personally am opposed to more short-term [continuing resolutions]. We have to get the long-term done. Long-term is becoming short-term," Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday after a weekly Democratic luncheon. "We're down to about six months now. So I would hope that we can move forward on a long-term solution to the country's problems as it relates to this short-term budget problem."

Reid's comments come as Congress remains deadlocked over passing a long-term spending measure to fund the federal government through Sept. 30.

While both Democrats and Republicans say they’re willing to cut federal spending, Republicans have offered a plan that would cut a total of $61 billion from current levels. Democrats have criticized those cuts as too deep.

On Sunday, Senate Majority Whip Dick Dur! bin (D-Ill.) said he was against cutting more than $10.5 billion in non-defense discretionary federal spending â€" $4 billion already agreed to in a stopgap measure that expires March 18, then another $6.5 billion.
