postheadericon Poll: Oregon voters split on Wu

Oregon voters are split over whether they want Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) to remain in office after exhibiting bizarre behavior, according to a new poll.

The SurveyUSA poll, released Monday, found that 42 percent want Wu to remain in office, while 46 percent want him to resign. The remaining 12 percent are unsure.

Fifty-six percent also said they have a right to know about the state of Wu's mental health; 39 percent think Wu deserves privacy in such matters.

Fifty-two percent say they have lost confidence in Wu since news broke of his erratic behavior, including wearing a tiger costume and sending e-mails in the guise of one of his daughters. Some members of his staff resigned as a result.

Political observers, state Republicans an! d some newspaper editorial pages have called for Wu's resignation. Republicans now see Wu's district, once a Democratic stronghold, as ripe for the taking. On Monday Wu toured the state assuring Oregon Democrats he could win in 2012.
