Sen. Chuck Grassley got defensive on Twitter on Thursday.

“I know how to spell,” Grassley (R-Iowa) told his Twitter followers Thursday morning, apparently in response to criticism of his typical tweeting style.

"Quit complaining abt my Twitter shorthand I know how to spell But Twitter limit is 120 characters," Grassley tweeted.

Grassley, a frequent tweeter and one of a handful of senators who manage their own accounts, regularly shortens words and abbreviates meaning in his mini-updates.

Twitter’s character limit is actually 140, though Grassley may be self-imposing saved space for links, which he often includes in tweets.
