The staff of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) signed up for first aid training, and encouraged the congresswoman's followers to do the same.

Nearly two months after the supermarket shooting near Tucson, Ariz., that sent Giffords, among others, to the hospital with gunshot wounds, the staff signed up for training at their local Red Cross.

In honor of Giffords, the Red Cross is hosting free, 45-minute Red Cross training courses in first aid and CPR at more than 100 locations on Saturday, March 19. The Red Cross is calling it “Save a Life Saturday,” in memory of the shooting on Saturday, J! an. 8. “Many of the bystanders knew CPR and first aid and were able to save the lives of several victims, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who received help from her intern Daniel Hernandez,” according to the Red Cross website.

Giffords is still recovering from being shot in the head and, according to her husband, continues to make progress. She was well enough to celebrate her husband’s and his twin brother’s birthday on Feb. 21 in the Houston hospital during where she is undergoing rehabilitation.
