Former Rep. John Tanner (D-Tenn.) has joined a law firm.

At Miller & Martin, Tanner will provide strategic advice to the firm's clients on matters of tax, tariffs, foreign policy and military relations among other issues. The law firm has offices in Atlanta, Chattanooga and Nashville.

Tanner, who retired from Congress last year after serving 11 terms, already is vice chairman of Prime Policy Group, one of the top lobby firms in Washington.

"Congressman Tanner has made a positive and significant difference in the lives of Tennesseans and all Americans. Now he has the opportunity to share that unique experience with our firm and our clients," said Melvin Malone, chairman of Miller & Martin, in a statement about the former member of the Blue Dog Coalition and member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

"It is an honor to become associated with a prestigious firm like Miller & Martin," Tanner said. "I’ve long known this firm to ! be a uniquely outstanding practice that not only reaches across Tennessee and the southeast, but also the nation and world."
