postheadericon Dem senator: Libya defunding effort will fail

A key Democratic senator predicted Wednesday that any effort to strip funding for the U.S. military intervention in Libya will fail.

Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), the chairman of the Armed Services Committee and a supporter of the mission, said that the mission will garner bipartisan support when lawmakers return from recess next week.

{mosads}"Maybe [there are] some people who will try to end the effort â€" I don't think they will have success in the Senate," he said on a conference call with reporters.

Levin's comments came in response to anti-war Rep. Dennis Kucinich's (D-Ohio) effort to defund the mission via an amendment to the next federal budget bill.
