Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Sunday that he was confident in the information Japan was sharing with the United States about the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant.

"There is no evidence that I ever heard that the Japanese were holding back," Chu said on CNN's "State of the Union." "We are getting information from them. We have confidence in that information." 

Since the massive earthquake and tsunami rocked Japan more than a week ago, engineers at the plant have been battling to bring several damaged reactors under control. Chu said it seemed the containment facilities around two of the reactors seem to be intact while there might be a breach around the third because of more radiation being detected there.

"We don't know the status of the third one," Chu said.
