House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) met Tuesday with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at the Capitol.

Bloomberg entered the Speaker's suite just after 1 p.m. for a meeting with Boehner, a spokesman for Boehner confirmed.

The Speaker's office wouldn't comment on the topics of discussion, and a spokesman for Bloomberg didn't immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.

{mosads}Bloomberg has been active in some congressional debates, most notably on gun control. The New York mayor has pushed for tighter restrictions on firearms, and amid signs that President Obama is preparing to seek new gun regulations, Bloomberg may well be looking to lobby the Speaker to allow a vote in the more gun-friendly Republican House.

UPDATE: A Bloomberg spokesman said the meeting was "mostly about the economy and creating jobs," not gun control. Bloomberg appeared at a press conference with New York Democrats earlier in the day promoting gun regulations.
