postheadericon Axelrod headlining spring training fundraiser

Former White House senior adviser David Axelrod will headline a fundraiser for the Arizona Democratic Party this weekend held at a spring training baseball game.

Axelrod, a confidant of President Obama's who left the White House to join the president's reelection campaign, will appear March 20 at a game between the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs in Mesa, Ariz.

Andrei Cherny, the chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party, sent an invitation for the fundraiser on Monday, tickets for which range from $500 for a single ticket to $10,000 for eight tickets and other perks as part of the "Hall of Fame Sponsor" package.

Sporting events are a frequent venue for political fundraisers, and Axelrod's presence could help Arizona Democrats reap tens of thousands of dollars. It's more unusual, though, to see such fundraisers during spring training, the exhibition preseason matchups between baseball teams.
