Earlier this week, I joined a majority of my colleagues in voting to begin debate on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which authorizes funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other important national security provisions. The bill also provides critical support for service members, such as fair pay and benefits for our troops, and behavioral health resources, including a provision I authored encouraging the replication of a program at Colorado’s Fort Carson, which helps ensure soldiers can get treatment before, during and after they serve on the battlefield.

Unfortunately, we were prevented earlier this week from even debating the substance of the legislation by an unprecedented show of obstructionism.
