postheadericon GOP lawmaker: My Twitter account was 'hacked by robospammers'

Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) returned to Twitter after nearly a five-month break Tuesday night only to have his account hacked.

"If you got a weird tweet from me ignore it & do not click on the hyperlinks -they are prob viruses- my account was hacked by robospammers," he tweeted Wednesday morning. He noted later that he had "fixed the account."

One "weird tweet" appears to have been sent from Culberson's account at just before 12 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A retweet from a retirement-planning firm Culberson follows, it asks, "Going for a date? Get an info about #Dating #Tips for #Seniors & make your date all the more romantic."

Apart from that, Culberson's first 12 hours back on Twitter appear to have been a success.

He resumed his activity by saying he would try to "see if I can filter out trolls & spam & focus on friends & respectful, thoughtful opponents" and that he had been "tired of endless spam and mindless trolls" when he left in May.

"I have missed these spontaneous conversations - this is a wonderful tool once I figure out out how to boot trolls etc as I have on Facebook," he added later.

He also weighed in on the iPad, calling it a "revolutionary device" and saying that he is "hooked."

"Transformed personal computing forever - same feeling I had in 1985 with my 1st LISA," he said. "I still have the Lisa & my first Mac SE which was my next computer in 1986. I also still have my very first computer, a Kaypro CPM machine."
