House GOP Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is currently three Twitter followers away from having a total of 17,000 who subscribe to his @GOPWhip feed.

He put out the call for more followers at around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, and had 14 more within 20 minutes.

"Please RT: 17 followers away from 17,000. Follow @GOPWhip for the latest updates from the House @GOPWhip Eric Cantor #tcot," he said.

Cantor's Democratic counterpart, Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.), joined Twitter on Sept. 13 and has 727 followers. 

The House Majority and Minority Leaders are similarly divided: Republican John Boehner (Ohio) has 61,158 followers while Democrat Steny Hoyer (Md.) has 3,188. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has 15,692.
