postheadericon Sherrod to meet with Vilsack on job offer

Ousted Agriculture official Shirley Sherrod will meet with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Tuesday to discuss a potential job with the department, according to an unnamed official.

CNN reports that she has been offered the position of Deputy Director of the Office of Advocacy and Outreach, which would involve improving the department's efforts on civil rights.

Sherrod had been forced to resign from her Georgia position in July after a video suggesting she had denied full efforts to a white farmer because of his race surfaced online.

After news outlets picked up the story, the full text of the speech emerged, showing that Sherrod had used the anecdote to illustrate that Americans should move beyond race. The m! an she referred to has also confirmed that Sherrod helped to save his farm.

Vilsack and Sherrod have not met face-to-face since the controversy.
