postheadericon Poll: Obama's approval rating could be trouble for Dems in 2010

President Obama's low approval rating could lead to big gains for Republicans in 2010, Gallup points out.

"Since 1946, when presidents are above 50% approval, their party loses an average of 14 seats in the U.S. House in the midterm elections, compared with an average loss of 36 seats when presidents are below that mark," they note.

Obama's approval rating has averaged out to 45 percent during the last two weeks.

Republicans need to win 39 seats to take back the House.
