Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) tweeted Tuesday afternoon that her primary campaign would be suspending its activities, following the crash Monday night of a plane that was carrying former Alaska senator Ted Stevens (R).

"All campaign activities have been suspended for now," the tweet read. 

Murkowski has served in the Senate since 2002. Her primary against attorney Joe Miller is Aug. 24.
