postheadericon McCain releases hold on Clapper

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) released his hold Tuesday on the nomination of retired Gen. James Clapper to become Director of National Intelligence.

McCain placed the hold yesterday, demanding Clapper produce a certain classified intelligence report.

Today, McCain's spokeswoman said he has released his hold after receiving that report.

"This afternoon, Senator McCain received the report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that he first requested nearly one year ago, and as a result he is releasing his hold on General Clapper’s nomination," said spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan.

"This report confirms Senator McCain’s longstanding concerns about the poor oversight and cost overruns in intelligence technology programs," she added.

At least two other Republicans, Sens. Kit Bond (R-Mo.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), have threatened to place holds on Clappers' nomination if the Obama administration does not produce a certain report on ! Guantanamo Bay.
