Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has been released from the hospital after having a "rare" tumor removed from his stomach Thursday.

Durbin, 65, was released Friday evening after undergoing surgery on Thursday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The small gastro-intestinal stromal tumor, discovered during a routine check-up, was removed with laparoscopic surgery.

Durbin was the second Senate Democrat to be hospitalized for surgery during August's congressional recess. Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) underwent surgery earlier this week to remove his gallbladder.
