President Obama made history on Tuesday, at least according to a Twitter hashtag.

But a quick look at the tweets using the #ObamaInHistory hashtagâ€"already picked up by Comedy Central with a post on the popular Indecision blogâ€"likely previews the political joke of the day.

The White House on Monday added a section titled “Did you know?” to the bottom of many of the official biographies of former presidents on the official White House website. The section relates an action taken or proposal made by each president, going back to Ca! lvin Coolidge (R), to a recent one by Obama. Several comparisons are made to controversial Obama proposals, prompting outrage from several bloggers and influential conservatives on Twitter who on Tuesday popularized the hashtag #ObamaInHistory to mock the president for “adding” himself to history.

A White House official told The Hill no biographies have been altered, and emphasized the nature of the digital platform.

“We simply added links at the bottom of each page to related whitehouse.gov content, which is a commonly used best practice to encourage people to browse more pages on a site,” the official said.
