Texas governor Rick Perry warned Democrats Friday that attacks on Mitt Romney's tenure at Bain Capital would likely backfire, citing his own experience raising the issue on the campaign trail during the Republican primary.

"We were looking for some ways to score some points and it didn't work," Perry told CNN. "The bottom line is, it didn't work then, it doesn't work now."

President Obama's campaign issued a pair of advertisements highlighting instances where companies Bain had invested in closed factories and laid off workers. But Republicans and some Democrats â€" including Newark Mayor Cory Booker â€" criticized the line of attack as unfair to private equity firms.
