postheadericon Landrieu, Alexander spar over Senate gridlock

Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Tuesday to promote their bipartisan support for public charter schools, but neither could completely refrain from trading shots over gridlock in the Senate.

"If you want to criticize the Senate now, you don't criticize it because we argue, we should be. We're not producing enough results on big issues," Alexander said, quickly noting that "the reason for that is because the Democratic Leader won't bring up enough serious legislation."

Although Alexander conceded that "too many of the Republicans make [serious legislation] harder to bring it up when it comes" and that both parties "need to find a way to get results," his comments drew Landrieu into a quick defense of Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
