postheadericon Architect of the Capitol concludes five-year asbestos removal project

The Architect of the Capitol has concluded its five-year, multi-million dollar effort to clear the Capitol power plant utility tunnels of life-threatening hazards, including asbestos and falling concrete.

The $173 million effort began in June 2007 as a result of an unprecedented settlement between the AoC and the Office of Compliance after the agency filed an administrative complaint under the Congressional Accountability Act.
