Ann Romney credited Americans with “bravery” for their willingness to fight through difficult times and compared their struggles to her own with cancer during a radio interview Thursday.

“You just deal with the cards that are dealt you and you just go on and push forward,” she told America’s Radio News, adding that she’s seen that same spirit many times in meeting people out on the campaign trail with her husband, likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. “That’s the bravery I’ve seen in so many Americans as we’ve been campaigning across the nation.”

She said that having cancer “opened my heart up and made me see others in a different light.”

Ultimately, having cancer had turned into a “blessing” in her life, Romney said, because of what she learned, and because of the support she received from her husband, family and strangers along the way.
