postheadericon Santorum releases attack ad hitting Romney on guns, earmarks, abortion

Rick Santorum's presidential campaign released a new negative ad attacking Mitt Romney using only quotations from the former Massachusetts governor.

The new television ad is airing statewide in Michigan, according to Santorum's campaign on Thursday.

"'I don't line up with the National Rifle Association (NRA)' - Mitt Romney Source: The Boston Globe," the first text in the ad, "Say What", reads.

"'I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose,'" the ad also quotes Romney as saying.

"Say What" also features quotations from Romney and reports on Romney tying him negatively to his Massachusetts healthcare reform law, as a prodigious user of earmarks, and tax hiker.

"As Governor, Romney requested millions in U.S. earmarks," another slide in the ad says.

The ad ends with a line that reads "Rick Santorum for President. A Trusted Conservative."

The ads release comes a day after a debate in ! which Romney and Santorum hammered each other over healthcare reform and earmark spending. In particular, Romney accused the former Pennsylvania of being a prodigious user of earmarks during his time in the Senate.

"Since Mitt Romney refuses to talk about his own liberal record - we figured we'd show people what Mitt Romney says about Mitt Romney. We wanted to give Governor Romney's long-held positions and statements an opportunity to be heard," Santorum spokesman J. Hogan Gidley said in a statement.
