postheadericon Jeb Bush says Republican field 'appealing to people's fears'

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush â€" who has been suggested by many Republicans as a likely candidate to emerge from a hypothetical brokered convention if no current GOP hopeful can capture the nomination â€" criticized GOP candidates for "appealing to people's fears" on the campaign trail during a speech in Texas on Thursday.

"I used to be a conservative, and I watch these debates and I'm wondering â€" I don't think I've changed, but it's a little troubling sometimes when people are appealing to people's fears and emotion rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader perspective, and that's kind of where we are," said Bush, according to Fox News. "I think it changes when we get to the general election. I hope."

The former Florida governor went on to say that GOP candidates should be talking about how to reform and refine government agencies â€" like the Department of Education â€" rather than simply eliminating them.
