postheadericon Dem senator says Sen. Santorum was 'uncompromising'

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) described Rick Santorum, when he served in the U.S. Senate, as a senator who had "very little interest" in people who disagreed with him.

"Rick is somebody that has no doubts about his position. And very little interest in the views of those who disagree with him," Conrad said in an interview on Bloomberg T.V. set to air Friday evening. "I think that would be my take on how Sen. Santorum conducted himself with his colleagues when he was in the Senate."

Conrad described Santorum, a Pennsylvania Republican now contending for his party's presidential nomination,  as "unyielding and uncompromising."

"I wouldn't say he was going to win any popularity contests in the Senate," Conrad added.

Santorum has recently experienced an upsurge in the polls, a number of which have found him leading the GOP field or tied with Mitt Romney, both nationally and in key battleground states.

The Wall Street Jour! nal reported Friday that President Obama's reelection campaign was weighing whether to move away from its singular focus on attacking Mitt Romney and begin preparing to hit Santorum in case he wins the GOP nomination.
