The White House on Monday deflected blame for the increasingly likely failure of the supercommittee to negotiate a deficit-reduction package, pushing responsibility back onto Republicans in Congress who sought to blame President Obama. 

The premise that President Obama has been "disengaged" or "less engaged" in the supercommittee's deficit-reduction negotiations is "simply false," according to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

"It's never been a mystery for the members of this committee what the president thinks," he said.
