Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said that President Obama was "dead wrong" to offer entitlement cuts to Republicans in negotiations in the supercommittee tasked with finding $1.2 trillion in savings over the next 10 years.

"The president, if he were to support that proposal, would be going back on his word," Sanders said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

Sanders said that he objected to proposals that would merely avoid cuts to social programs, rather than also raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans.
