postheadericon Lawyer for Cain accuser asks Restaurant Association to allow public statement

Joel Bennett, an attorney for one of the women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment during his time as president of the National Restaurant Association, said Thursday that he was sending a formal request to the trade association's lawyer asking for his client to be allowed to release a public statement addressing the allegations.

"I will be emailing a draft public statement to the National Restaurant Association's attorney this morning," Bennett said in an email. "I will be asking the association to allow us to release the public statement without violating the confidentiality and non-disparagement provisions of the 1999 settlement agreement. I will not be making any further statements until we hear back from the association."

The lawyer said Wednesday that his client does not plan on speaking publicly, out of fear of the media attention surrounding the incident, but does want to portray her side of the story.
