Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) pushed back on Democratic criticism that he was "the main obstacle to an agreement" in the debt supercommittee poised to admit failure later today, arguing through a spate of morning appearances that he was "dedicated to trying to find a solution" and that Republicans had made the "break through" offer that might have helped the committee reach agreement.

Kyl said that a report in the New York Times that had Democrats pointing the finger at him for obstructing the process was "a characterization that would be unfair to any of the members of the committee" during an interview Monday on Fox News. 

The Times quoted Democrats as saying Kyl was like "an angry father arriving home to realize the children were having a party, and shutting the whole thing down" and that "while Kyl is in the group, it sure seems that nothing will happen."
