The Des Moines Register announced Wednesday that they were canceling a previously scheduled debate on Dec. 19 and instead partnering with ABC in hosting their Dec. 10 contest, easing a schedule that would have had Republicans debating 5 more times before the Iowa caucuses.

"This debate is three short weeks before the Iowa caucuses," said Laura Hollingsworth, publisher of the Register. "It will be an important time for Iowans to be making important decisions, and we are pleased to help lead them.”

The Republicans have had a packed debate schedule, having already met 12 times this year to debate. Even with the announced cancellation, there are 15 more debates scheduled throughout the Republican primaries, including a pair in New Hampshire separated by just 12 hours.
