In a series of proposed rules, the administration recently confirmed what many of the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) fiercest proponents have feared: The law’s requirement that employers must make health insurance coverage “affordable”â€"defined as 9.5 percent of an employee’s family income-only applies to single coverage, not family coverage.


Those familiar with all the law’s moving parts know exactly what this means: Because any offer of employer insurance coverageâ€" whether or not it’s considered affordable â€" blocks access to generous subsidies in the insurance exchange, millions of families will be stuck in a no-man’s-land without affordable coverage through their employer or the exchange.
