Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will spend Thanksgiving in Tucson, Arizona.

Giffords (D-Ariz.), the congresswoman who was shot during a shooting rampage in early January, will spend the holiday with husband Mark Kelly as well as close friends and family, her office announced. Giffords arrived in Tucson Tuesday evening. 

"Over the past 10 months, the congresswoman frequently has expressed her desire to return home and said how much she misses Tucson," Giffords spokesman Mark Kimble said according to the Tucson Sentinel. "She talks regularly with friends and visitors from Tucson and maintains a keen interest in events in her hometown."

Giffords' visit comes shortly after she made her first ap! pearance on television, last week, where she spoke since the shooting at the beginning of the year. 

In the televised interview with ABC, Giffords expressed interest in that interview of returning to Congress once she is better. 

Doctors have praised Giffords recovery from the shooting, where the Arizona congresswoman suffered a gunshot to the head, as remarkable. In early November she finished a two week intensive rehabilitation program in North Carolina.
