postheadericon DNC continues ad campaign against Romney

The Democratic National Committee launched newspaper ads in Detroit on Wednesday attacking Mitt Romney, underscoring again that the party sees the former Massachusetts governor as their primary threat in the 2012 election.

The ad says that Romney "would have 'let Detroit go bankrupt,'" citing a 2008 New York Times op-ed in which Romney argued against auto-industry bailouts.

"If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye," Romney wrote in the Times. "It won't go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed."

Romney is in Michigan Wednesday for a Republican presidential debate there tonight. The state will be an important one in the 2012 general election. Romney won in Michigan in the 2008 GOP primary.
