postheadericon Cain rejects criticism of latest Libya comments

Herman Cain is pushing back on criticism that the presidential candidate may have made another foreign policy mistake when he suggested Friday that the Taliban - the former militant ruling party of Afghanistan - would influence Libya's newly forming government.

Critics were quick to note that the Taliban was not considered influential outside of the Middle East, and that while there were legitimate concerns about the influence of the Al-Qaeda terror network on the new Libyan regime, it was unlikely that the Taliban would be concerned with politics outside its' own region.

But Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon has pointed out that Abdel-Hakim Belhaj, a military leader in Libya's National Transitional Council, had fought with the Afghan Taliban.
