postheadericon Transportation project costs skyrocket

As part of his American Jobs Act, President Obama is calling for $50 
billion in highway infrastructure spending, in yet another effort to 
spend our way to prosperity. While there is scant evidence such
 spending will stimulate the economy as past experience has shown,
infrastructure spending is often a cause of cost overruns and budget
 deficits.



This was true in the $4 billion Dulles Metro Rail project that is now
 approaching $7 billion or the Boston Big Dig, which started as a $2.8
billion program and ended as a $15 billion project. When politics are
 involved, budget deception is the usual result.
