Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) held his first Twitter townhall on Wednesday. Reid's office promoted the event as the first time a Senate Democrat held this type of event.

Reid's staff tweeted responses to questions while Reid expounded on questions live, typically using more than 140 characters in his answers.

"I kind of enjoyed myself here," Reid said of the event. "I guarantee I have more people at my Twitter townhall than my [regular] townhalls...where six or seven people show up."

The event was livestreamed and questions asked using the hashtag #AskReidTH. It lasted less than half an hour and Reid responded to 10 questions, including one from Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) on disaster relief.

Rockefeller tweeted: "#AskReidTH - can get the disaster re! lief bill done? many americans are in need of help. there are at least 8 disasters in west virginia"

"We're going to get it done, it's just a matter of how," Reid responded.

Republicans including House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the House Republican Conference tweeted questions to Reid for the event, as well, but did not receive a response.
