When crooner Barry Manilow visited Capitol Hill this week, he received a musical gift from a Democratic senator.

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) offered the singer a CD of his own song, "Western Town."

"Who sings the songs 'that make the whole world sing'?" Nelson tweeted, along with a link to the Omaha World-Herald.

"He writes the songs that make girls cry," Nelson said, as reported by the newspaper. "We have that in common, because when I sing, then they cry, too."

Nelson recorded the song for a CD to raise funds for the the Nebraska Foundation for Visually Impair! ed Children.

Manilow held a press conference in the Capitol Visitor Center on Thursday to launch his “Get Back in Rhythm” campaign and promote awareness of the heart disease atrial fibrillation.
