Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) sent well-wishes to the president of his home-state baseball team on Tuesday following the team’s announcement of his cancer diagnosis.

Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall tweeted: “We are announcing today through @dbacks that I was diagnosed with prostate cancer Saturday. I will beat this and will help save other lives.”

McCain replied: “My thoughts & prayers are with @DHallDBacks today - wishing you a speedy recovery my friend."”

McCain has also battled cancer.  He was diagnosed and treated for melanoma following his first unsuccessful presidential run in 2000.

This i! sn't the first time McCain has taken to social media to support his home team.  The senator used Facebook and Twitter to rally fans to nominate Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy for the MLB All-Star game this summer, according to USA Today.

Most recently, McCain helped the Diamondbacks commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. McCain placed a baseball on the pitcher's mound at the start of the game in lieu of throwing out the first pitch.

Hall donated $2,300 to McCain's presidential campaign in the 2008 election, according to campaign finance records.
