postheadericon Rep. Lewis: âToday, we are all Troy Anthony Davisâ

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) wrote a somber tweet about soon-to-be-executed inmate Troy Davis on Wednesday.

“Today, we are all Troy Anthony Davis. Tonight, a little piece of all of us will die,” Lewis tweeted.

Davis is scheduled to receive a lethal injection at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the 1989 murder of Savannah, Ga., police officer Mark McPhail.

Davis has been on death row for 22 years despite having his case stayed four times by appeals courts. The Supreme Court allowed Davis to file an appeal but in the end did not hear his case.

Eight of 10 witnesses in the trial recanted their testimonies.

The NAACP and a number of other civil rights advocates have said Davis should not be executed because of questionable evidence in h! is case.

The death penalty has been a topic of the Republican presidential primary recently. At a recent GOP primary debate the audience cheered when Texas’s high execution rate was mentioned during a question directed at the state’s governor, Rick Perry (R).
