Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) campaign went on the offensive Thursday, pushing back against a negative ad by a PAC supporting Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-Minn.) presidential campaign. 

Perry's top spokesman pushed back forcefully against an ad running in South Carolina accusing the Texas governor of being a big spender.

"There is an honest conservative, and she's not Rick Perry," the ad, produced by Keep Conservatives United, says in reference to Bachmann.

"Gov. Perry is a proven fiscal conservative, having cut taxes, signed six balanced budgets, and led Texas to become America’s top job-creating state,” said Ray Sullivan, Perry's communications director. “Congresswoman Bachmann’s front-group ad is patently and provably false. Unlike Washington, the Texas budget is balanced, does not run deficits and limits spending, even as Texa! s added jobs and population in big numbers.”
