postheadericon Obama campaign urges calls to Congress, provides script

President Obama's reelection campaign is escalating its call for supporters to contact their members of Congress in support of the president's jobs bill.

Obama has repeatedly urged Americans to call their representatives in Washington, but now the campaign is borrowing a tactic from grassroots advocacy groups and providing a sample script for those conversations. 

"We can all take two minutes to call our lawmakers right now. Tell them not to let politics get in the way of creating jobs â€" and ask them to pass the American Jobs Act," campaign manager Jim Messina wrote in an email to supporters on Thursday. "If that's a proposal you think makes sense, it's time to let your Republican lawmaker hear it."

The email provides a phone number for the lawmaker representing the email recipient's district. If the recipient clicks a link to the Obama campaign website, he or she is given a sample script for the conversation, as well as a place to let the campaign know how the conversation went.
