Republican House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) welcomed two new GOP members of Congress on Wednesday.

"Congrats to @BobTurner9th and @AmodeiNevada!" McCarthy tweeted.

Bob Turner and Mark Amodei won in special elections Tuesday evening in New York and Nevada, their respective states.

In a hotly contested race, Turner claimed former Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D) seat in New York's 9th district. This is the first time a Republican has held this seat since 1923.

Many Republicans celebrated both wins as a referendum on President Obama and the Democrats.
