postheadericon Boehner on Obama Ohio visit: He'll get 'some more Midwest hospitality'

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said President Obama would get "some more Midwest hospitality" when he visits Boehner's district next week.

On Thursday the White House announced that Obama would travel to Cincinnati on Sept. 22 and visit the Brent Spence Bridge to promote his new job-creation legislation and stress the "urgent need" for additional infrastructure spending.

"Well, he's going to get some more Midwest hospitality. We're glad that the president is coming," Boehner said later Thursday on Bloomberg News. "He's coming to do an event at the Brent Spence Bridge between Ohio and Kentucky. [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell [(R-Ky.)] and I worked on this! for a long time … but we're glad he's bringing some attention to this. You know, in the stimulus bill that passed two and a half years ago we spent about $30 billion in road projects. This could've been a great stimulus project."

Obama recently proposed the $447 billion American Jobs Act, made up of a combination of employee payroll tax cuts, infrastructure spending and increased unemployment insurance benefits.

Earlier on Thursday at a speech at the Economic Club of Washington, Boehner criticized the plan as "a poor substitute for the pro-growth policies that are needed to remove barriers to job creation in America."
